pause.

It’s become a part of me, but it didn’t happen by chance. I had to be intentional and integrate this NEW idea of pausing in my life. I have every opportunity to do so…I just need to do it!

When I see the yellow traffic light, honestly I step on the gas thinking I can make it before I hit the brakes because RED. Why didn’t I choose to PAUSE on yellow and rest until God changed the light to green? God gives us the yellow light so many times, but we don’t stop. We keep pushing thru, going for the fast-forward and miss his whispers. Why are we in such a hurry? Why don’t we just take time to PAUSE and experience the quiet presence of God.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

I PAUSE each morning when I wake up before my feet hit the ground. I PAUSE and spend time with the Lord. He receives the first thoughts of my day. I start with The Lord’s Prayer – probably a throwback to my Catholic upbringing. Then I give him praise, thanksgiving, and prayer requests.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and thanksgiving… Philippians 4: 6-7

And I end our time with “Today Lord, use me as you would and make me look more like you. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. Thanks for loving me.” It makes my eyes water and my heart beat a little faster each morning knowing I’m covered by the blood of Jesus. Take time to rest in the presence of our Lord. As I implement this idea of pausing on my journey, it has led me to times of exhaling and resting with the Lord. Praying more and rushing less. Jesus was very intentional in his prayer life and He is a model for us all. He rests. He PAUSES and spends time with the Father.

Come to me…..I will give your rest. Matt 11:28

We need to rest and pause with God. It’s his promise to us.

by the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Gen 2:2

In the world today, we spend so much of our time either looking back (REWINDING) at our past mistakes or looking forward (FAST-FORWARDING) to what tomorrow will bring instead of focusing on the right now. If we could just hit the PAUSE button, we would reset and focus on the moment. Before we even utter a word, we could PAUSE and think:

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. James 1:19

What a great feeling to BE in the moment.

What a great feeling to BE in the moment. Life is short and goes by too quickly. Drink in the moment. Smell the aroma of fresh brewed coffee. Taste those homemade cookies right out of the oven. Bend over and kiss the little ones at your feet. Tell someone you love them. Stop. Press the PAUSE button. Transform your life from chaos to calm and spend time with God.

“We can be tired, weary and emotionally distraught, but after spending time alone with God, we find that He injects into our bodies energy, power and strength.” Charles Stanley

He has given us his Word, his promises, his guidance for all things in our lives. Rest in the fact that we can trust him. He wants the best for us, but we need to be listening.

I rest in the fact that Jesus loves me. He wants me to PAUSE, keep my eyes on him, and he will give me rest. My hope and prayer is that you find time to PAUSE, find rest in God, and quiet your spirit. He is waiting for you.
