As humans we were created with 5 senses: sight, hear, smell, feel and my favorite, taste. It’s the stuff that dictates how we respond to the world around us. We often rely on them to keep us safe and make us feel in control.  But most likely, we are so distracted by them that we miss what is really happening, giving us a false sense of security. We get caught up in the natural realm and ignore the supernatural, and what if what we sense is not actually what is happening? What if we searched beyond our 5 senses and found that the things we are wrestling with are actually not what we believe they are?

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12

... where we have believed a lie, we have given authority (legal right) to the enemy to torment us in that area.

What does this mean for you? What does this say about your circumstances? It says to me, that my issues are not because of people - people may seem to be what is bothering me but that is not the case. What my senses are saying is only part of the story. My issues are because of what is going on in the supernatural - which I can’t see therefore, out of sight, out of mind. My Pastor, Robert Morris says the Bible was written by a supernatural God to supernatural beings - that would be you and me. We ourselves are supernatural. We were created that way by our supernatural God but the enemy of our souls strives to keep us unaware of our supernatural nature because when we are focused on the natural realm, we easily fall victim to his limitless lies. Our enemy (principalities, powers, rulers of darkness etc.) is deceptive above all else. If they can get us to believe a lie based on our senses, they can very easily create a stronghold of control in that area of our lives. We have then given the enemy the authority to torment us in that area. Let me say that again, where we have believed a lie, we have given authority (legal right) to the enemy to torment us in that area.

So what is the remedy? I believe that since God created us as supernatural beings, He has also given us supernatural senses, we just need to activate them. Just as our spiritual gifts will sit dormant if we don’t use them, it’s the same with our senses. Ask the Lord to increase your sensitivity of your supernatural senses so you can live in the reality of your world and understand where your true battles lie. We can move with greater authority in spiritual warfare when we clearly can discern what is coming against us.
